Ellen M. Gravallese | Rheumatologist, Educator

For more than three decades, Dr. Ellen Gravallese has been a prominent figure in rheumatology and internal medicine. After graduating from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science in 1977, she went on to earn an MD at Columbia University in 1981. She is board certified in internal medicine, pathology and rheumatology.
In 1981, Dr. Gravallese became an associate professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School. She taught at the prestigious college until 2006. From there, she joined the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is the chief of the division of rheumatology and a professor of medicine. In addition to her work in teaching medicine, Dr. Gravallese has been a visiting lecturer for the Mayo Clinic. She has been the physician-in-chief pro tempore for the hospital for special surgery for Cornell Medical School.
